Traffic costs Andrew Jordan in frenetic qualifying session at Knockhill
West Surrey Racing’s Andrew Jordan explained traffic on his final run prevented him from improving on his final lap in a qualifying session where times were tumbling fast on a drying track.
The 28-year-old found himself down in 17th in the order after the session was over in his BMW 125i M Sport, while his team-mates Colin Turkington and Rob Collard escaped traffic on their runs and qualified in third and fourth on the grid.
“I just had traffic on my last lap,” said Jordan. “With ten minutes to go we were in P3, and then we made the call to go onto slicks. Pole was constantly swapping at the top end, but I got traffic on my last lap after setting my fastest sector one, it was just a matter of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
“We did everything right, as we wanted to get out on the slicks and have them properly warmed them up for the end. We just got blocked by one of the VWs, and that was the lap done. I’m quite frustrated as we had the pace in that session, both in the wet and the dry, but I can’t control what others do.
“It’s going to be really tough starting from back where we are, but tomorrow’s a new day so we’ll try and break through and see if we can get into the top ten for the reversed grid in Race 3.”
