Colin Turkington takes advantage as points swing

Colin Turkington moved into the lead of the BTCC standings after the fight for honours took another turn at Knockhill.

The Team BMW driver secured a hat-trick of podium finishes from the weekend to move four points clear of Ash Sutton, with Honda’s Gordon Shedden and BMW team-mate Rob Collard close behind.

In fact, the top four drivers are split by just 17 points going into Rockingham with nine races remaining, with Tom Ingram 61 points down in fifth spot.

“It’s been a good weekend,” Turkington reflected. “We came here wanting to try and maximise our points, and to get three podium finishes is a strong performance.

“We maybe didn’t have the ultimate pace, but what we do have with the BMW is a very strong package and the fact that I also enjoy Knockhill made it a lot easier.

“Everyone knows that this is one of the most competitive seasons there has been in the BTCC and it’s going to be tight until the very end. I’ve been involved in title battles where the have been three drivers covered by five points going into the last race and I know that every point counts.

“I’m enjoying being right in the mix and we need to keep pushing hard.”
