Rob Collard puts his hands up to mistake in third Knockhill race
West Surrey Racing’s West Collard accepted the blame for his mistake in the last race, which saw him throw his BMW 125i M Sport out of fourth and down two 11th with two laps to go.
Collard had overtaken the Team Dynamics Honda of Gordon Shedden earlier in the race before the two made contact, and dropped to fourth behind team-mate Colin Turkington, but after the last restart, Collard made a mistake and went wide, dropping outside of the top ten.
If he’d finished where he was, he’d have been third in the championship, just nine points behind Turkington. Instead he heads to Rockingham fourth in the championship, 17 points back in fourth.
“I made a mistake, that was it,” said Collard to TouringCarTimes. “I just went through the chicane and hit the kerb too hard, and it fired the car across the track sideways, I’ve got to take full responsibility for it.
“It was unsighted but that’s no excuse, I’ve been through there a million times, I just clipped the kerb a bit too hard.”
