Tom Ingram takes his third win of the year in Knockhill Race 3

Tom Ingram has secured his third win of the 2017 British Touring Car Championship season at Knockhill, finishing ahead of championship rivals Gordon Shedden and Colin Turkington in a busy final race of the day.

Ant Whorton-Eales had started from pole position ahead of Ingram’s Toyota in his AmD Tuning Audi S3, but after leading the first lap, Whorton-Eales ran wide and damaged his car, and was forced to retire from the race.

Ingram now assumed the lead ahead of the BTC Racing Chevrolet of Dave Newsham and the Motorbase Ford Focus of Rory Butcher, who was busy defending against the Team Dynamics Honda Civic of Gordon Shedden, who’s also his brother-in-law, with the two putting on a magnificent fight at a circuit they’re very familiar with.

Shedden made his move past on lap three and quickly closed down Newsham’s Chevrolet, making his way through into second position at the hairpin.

Meanwhile, Ingram had built up a five second lead over Shedden, while behind, Newsham was soon caught and passed by the two West Surrey Racing BMWs of Rob Collard and Colin Turkington.

Collard had pace and quickly closed down on Shedden’s Honda, allowing Ingram to further extend his lead. Collard charged down the inside of Shedden to take second on lap 16, but the Scotman fought back and retook the position at the chicane, with Collard running out wide and dropping to fourth behind his team-mate.

The safety car was then deployed which decimated Ingram’s lead after Ollie Jackson’s Audi stopped on track.

The race was resumed after just one lap and Ingram began to break away again, but the race was soon suspended again after Will Burns in the Team HARD Volkswagen CC crashed out at the hairpin, burying the car deep into the barriers.

There were just two laps left when the race resumed, and there was still drama to come as Collard ran wide and fell from fourth to 11th.

Behind, the Subarus jostled around, with James Cole handing fourth to team-mate and title contender Ash Sutton at the line, which means Sutton dropped just two points to Turkington in the drivers’ championship.

Ingram took a comfortable win, one second clear of Shedden, with Turkington taking his third podium of the day.

Turkington continues to lead the championship by four points over Sutton, with Shedden six points further behind, and Collard five further back heading to the next round at Rockingham in two week’s time.
