Adam Morgan hopes for return to form

Adam Morgan said he hoped that qualifying at Rockingham was the start of an upturn in fortunes after he secured sixth on the grid for the eighth round of the BTCC season.

Morgan had looked like a possible championship contender in the opening stages of the season but a wretched run of form in recent meetings has seen his bid for silverware take a huge hit.

In fact, the last twelve races have seen Morgan score on just occasions, meaning his Ciceley Motorsport Mercedes A-Class has now slipped outside the top ten in the championship standings.

A solid performance on Saturday at Rockingham saw Morgan qualify just a tenth of a second away from pole, and he said he was keen to now try and convert the result into solid points on race day.

“P6 is the kind of position that we should be in,” he said. “We’ve had a lot of bad luck this season but we’ve always had a quick car; we just haven’t been able to show it. Hopefully this weekend we can now have a bit more luck and a few fewer failures to get some good points on the board.

“We need our luck to change as we’ve gone from being right in the mix towards the top of the points to finding ourselves down outside the top ten – but we have a chance to recover some lost ground.

“The races are going to be tough against the rear-wheel drive cars but we’ve just got to try and get ourselves in the mix and see where we end up.”
