Tom Ingram fastest again in second practice at Rockingham

Speedworks Motorsport’s Tom Ingram topped the second and final practice session at Rockingham Motor Speedway, leading the way in his Toyota Avensis ahead of a trio of Honda Civics.

The session was red flagged before ten minutes of running after Maximum Motorsport’s Stewart Lines stopped his Ford Focus on the grass at the exit of Chapman and required recovery to a safer location.

Chris Smiley had been fastest at this point in the BTC Racing Chevrolet Cruze, just ahead of the BMW of Colin Turkington.

Soon after the session restarted, Gordon Shedden showed there was more pace in the Team Dynamics Hondas than they’d showed in Free Practice 1, when he went fastest of all in the Civic Type-R, before the Eurotech Racing-run Honda of Jack Goff then came to the fore with a time of 1:23.365.

Goff was then dropped to second by Speedworks Motorsport’s Tom Ingram with just under ten minutes to go, with the 24-year-old ending up on top of the second session in a row in his Toyota Avensis.

There were a number of minor excursions, with both Triple Eight’s Aron Taylor-Smith and Team BMR’s Ash Sutton running wide at Brook chicane, while Senna Proctor drove his Power Maxed Vauxhall Astra through the gravel trap at Tarzan with just over ten minutes left on the clock.

Goff finished the session second ahead of Shedden, with Matt Neal fourth fastest in his Honda, with Mat Jackson fifth quickest in his Motorbase Performance Ford Focus.

Aiden Moffat ended the session sixth in his Mercedes-Benz A-Class, ahead of Ant Whorton-Eales in the AmD Tuning Audi S3, with the Mercedes of Adam Morgan, and the Subarus of Jason Plato and Josh Price completing the top ten.

The best-placed of the West Surrey Racing BMWs was Rob Collard in 11th, with championship leader Colin Turkington down in 20th position, while Subaru’s leading championship challenger Ash Sutton was 16th, just over half a second off the pace, with the top 28 covered by a second.

The next session is qualifying at 15:30 BST.
