Andrew Jordan wins from pole in the final race at Rockingham

West Surrey Racing’s Andrew Jordan took his third win of the season, his first since Oulton Park, in a busy third race at Rockingham, having to fight during the early stages to keep behind Adam Morgan’s Ciceley Racing Mercedes-Benz A-Class.

Jordan launched well from pole to lead into Turn 1, with Morgan and Jack Goff’s Honda just behind, as Jason Plato defended fourth in his Subaru ahead of Colin Turkington’s BMW.

During the first few laps, Jordan was forced to defend hard against Morgan and Goff, whose front-wheel drive cars were quickly up to pace as the rear-wheel drive BMW worked in its tyres.

Turkington dropped two positions to team-mate Rob Collard and the Toyota of Tom Ingram during this phase, with Collard now setting on Plato’s Levorg GT in a long battle for fourth.

As the race drew on, Jordan managed to start breaking away up front as the Mercedes of Morgan and Goff’s Honda began to fall back.

Goff now found himself being caught by Plato, and as they battled, this allowed Collard to dive past him on lap 12 and into fourth position.

Collard was now battling Goff, and Collard had a run at Goff at the exit of Tarzan but the two made contact, with Collard out of the race with broken suspension at Brook, with the safety car deployed.

Plato moved up to third in the fracas, and as the race resumed, the two-time champion was right on Morgan’s tail for the last two laps, as Jordan built a comfortable margin and went on to take the win by almost two seconds.

Team-mate Sutton worked his way forward after falling to tenth in the early stages to finish fifth and extended his lead in the championship to 12 points over Colin Turkington.

Team Dynamics Honda driver Gordon Shedden drove through from the back of the grid to finish 12th, and picked up a grand total of four points over the whole weekend, but manages to move back ahead of a non-scoring Collard to third in the standings, 55 points behind Sutton.

The next round of the championship takes place in three weeks’ time at Silverstone.
