Rob Collard and Will Burns taken to hospital after race one accident

Rob Collard and Will Burns have both been taken to hospital following their enormous accident in the first British Touring Car Championship race at Silverstone.

Collard’s BMW 125i was sent across the grass by contact from Triple Eight Racing’s Aron Taylor-Smith exiting Copse on lap 14, and he was collected by Burns’ Volkswagen CC on the exit of Becketts.

West Surrey Racing’s Collard has been admitted for precautionary tests and was shaken and bruised from the impact, but is otherwise OK.

Team Hard’s Burns was able to extricate himself but has since been diagnosed with broken ribs and has been airlifted to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.

Both drivers will take no further part in the day’s action.
