Eurico de Jesus wins Race 2 at Zhuhai for MacPro Racing

Eurico de Jesus has made it a double for MacPro Racing for the first round of the TCR China Touring Car Championship, leading Teamwork Motorsport’s Alex Hui and LEO Racing’s Li Lin to victory in a twice safety car-stopped second race at the Zhuhai International Circuit.

Wang Hao started from pole position in the NewFaster Racing Audi RS 3 LMS, with Alex Hui in the Teamwork Motorsport Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR alongside, but Hui stalled at the start and de Jesus leapt into the lead from fifth on the grid in the fast-starting MacPro Racing Honda Civic Type R FK8 TCR.

Wang’s start meanwhile in the NewFaster Audi was judged to have been a little too fast, and he was soon handed a drive-through penalty which dropped him down the order.

The race was suspended behind the safety car at the end of the first lap, when Edmand Chan in the D Garage Kia and Leong Ian Veng in the Son Veng Volkswagen collided at Turn 9.

The race resumed on lap five, with Li Lin diving into the lead at Turn 1 in his LEO Racing Volkswagen, but he was soon passed a lap later by de Jesus’s Honda, and lost one more spot to the recovering Alex Hui on lap seven.

With two laps to go, Wang and Rolly Sham in one of TRC Racing Honda Civic FK2s crashed out at the final corner and straight into the barriers, with the safety car deployed a final time, with the race unable to be restarted.

De Jesus therefore won the race, the second win for the #88 Honda Civic of MacPro Racing this weekend, with Teamwork’s Alex Hui finishing second with Li Lin completing the podium in his LEO Racing Volkswagen, with just eight cars finishing the race.

Race 3 is up next, which is the one-hour endurance event, with a draw for the reversed grid based on the combined results of Races 1 & 2. The race is due to start at 15:05 local time (9:05 CET).
