Dan Lloyd romps to pole position at Brands Hatch

Dan Lloyd has secured pole position for the third round of the TCR UK Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch in his WestCoast Racing Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR, fending off a late challenge from Pyro Motorsport’s Ollie Taylor in his new Honda.

Andreas Bäckman set the early running in the #19 WestCoast Racing Volkswagen, before Dan Lloyd left it until the end of the first part of qualifying to venture out on track and quickly put in a time of 48.812 to secure provisional pole.

Lloyd would then improve his time on his second run to 48.769, which looked safe to secure him pole position with his closest challenge coming from his team-mate, but in the final moments Ollie Taylor improved to second with a time of 48.806, just 0.037 behind and forcing Lloyd out to respond.

The Yorkshireman did so, and went out and set a time of 48.483, three-tenths clear of Taylor’s time, with no one able to respond to his time.

Andreas Bäckman secured third in his Volkswagen, with Lewis Kent fourth fastest in the Essex & Kent Motorsport Hyundai i30 N TCR, with Jessica Bäckman completing the top five.

Josh Price was sixth fastest in the BMR Honda Civic FK2 TCR, with Finlay Crocker seventh in the newer FK8 Civic.

Robert Gilmour was the last driver within a second of Lloyd’s time in the DPE Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR on his debut in eighth, with the Maximum Motorsport Cupra TCRs of Stewart Lines and Carl Swift completing the top ten.

Thirteen cars took part in qualifying, with Derek Palmer missing out due to an overheating issue with his DPE Motorsport Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR, with the Scottish driver set to start 14th and last on the grid.

The first race is scheduled for 13:20 BST on Sunday, with Race 2 at 15:45.
