Ollie Taylor happier with the new Honda Civic FK8

Ollie Taylor turned up at Brands Hatch Indy and instantly went fastest in his latest specification Honda Civic Type R TCR run by Pyro Motorsport, going faster than championship leader Dan Lloyd’s Volkswagen in the 30-minute warm up session.

Taylor, who sits third in the standings, has made the switch from the ninth generation Civic FK2 to the new FK8 from this weekend, and has immediately found the longer wheelbase, new generation car much more to his liking.

“We’re more comfortable with the car and it’s handling characteristics suits my driving style much better,” he said to TouringCarTimes.

“The other car, you had to drive it on quite a knife-edge to go really fast. We were struggling through the high-speed corners as it was always cocking its leg, but with this car and with the independent rear suspension it’s more settled, more planted, so we can push harder.

“Fastest was a nice way to start the weekend, but we don’t know what the others were doing, what tyres they were on or anything like that, so the first time we know where they really are will be qualifying this afternoon.”
