Colin Turkington heads the pack at the half way stage
Colin Turkington will lead the way into the BTCC’s summer break despite failing to add to his tally of victories at Croft.
Carrying maximum ballast into the weekend was always going to make things challenging for the WSR man but a solid performance across race day saw him pick up a hat-trick of top five finishes – including a podium finish in race two.
It means the Northern Irishman sits 19 points clear in the title race, with Tom Ingram now holding second spot and Matt Neal having moved up to third.
“Three top fives on any weekend is a top score and my challenge was harder this weekend with the full ballast,” Turkington said. “The performance advantage from rear-wheel drive to front-wheel drive isn’t what it was so we had to maximise what we had and that is what we did. It’s getting harder to win races and score points, but when we have the chance to win again, we will do.
“It’s hard to be consistent this season with the tyre choices and reverse grids and you have to be resilient and try to get as many points as you can when they can.
“It looks like the Subarus are going to be in the mix now but no-one is slow and anyone can win races as we saw with Dan Lloyd in race three. Everyone has a package to win if it falls their way and we have to work hard to come out at Snetterton with a better package if we can.”
