Dan Lloyd delighted with perfect result for WestCoast Racing

Dan Lloyd has placed himself in the catbird seat for the 2018 TCR UK Touring Car Championship title after scoring pole position for the final round of the season, his first since Brands Hatch in June, and has a strong chance of wrapping up the drivers’ title in the first race of the day tomorrow.

Lloyd rocketed to pole position in the WestCoast Racing Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR, leading the first 1-2-3 qualifying lockout for the team this year, with team-mates Andreas and Jessica Bäckman completing the perfect result for the squad.

“We had the pace in free practice, but we made some improvements to the car and it felt better,” said Lloyd to TouringCarTimes. “We put a good lap in, and I was actually getting pressure off of Andreas, which was fantastic to see as well, cos I’ve been coaching him too this year.

“It’s a great start to the weekend; I’ve already eaten away at some points, and put myself in the strongest position possible for tomorrow.”

With Lloyd’s consistently fast lap times during the session, with the reversed grid race set by the second fastest times reversed, Lloyd has also consigned himself to tenth on the grid for Race 2, admitting there was no plan to employ any crazy strategy in the session.

“We decided to just focus on the pole,” he said. “We decided not to play any games for the reversed grid and just go as fast as we can.

“It’s also been a mega job from Andreas and Jessica – it’s a fantastic job by the team to get a 1-2-3, a massive thanks to them.”
