Ollie Taylor could race in Europe, Germany or back in UK in 2019

TCR UK championship runner-up Ollie Taylor says he’s keeping his options open in respect of where he’ll race in 2019, with TCR UK an option alongside the TCR Germany championship and TCR Europe series.

Taylor raced a Pyro Motorsport-run Honda Civic TCR to second in the standings this year, starting with the older FK2-spec car before quickly upgrading to the FK8 model from the third round at Brands Hatch.

Taylor missed out on the title by 61 points to BTCC and TCR International Series regular Dan Lloyd, and was quickly looking ahead to next year, with Taylor dipping his toe in the water in TCR Europe with two appearances, the second of which is this weekend in Barcelona.

“We’re not certain yet what we’ll do next year,” said Taylor to TouringCarTimes. “We know it’ll be a TCR car somewhere; what car that will be, we do not know, and what championship that will be, we do not know.

“Speaking to David (Sonenscher, TCR UK promoter), there’s lots of good sounds coming out of TCR UK next year in terms of a shake up of people, technical officials and circuits, so we’re not ruling out TCR UK. If it’s as good as it sounds it may be back.

“We’ve raced in Europe and been over and watched in Germany, so we’re keeping our options open and will make a decision with the team and my management, to make sure it’s a good move for me and not go somewhere where we might be slightly out of our depth.

“TCR Europe for example is extremely competitive, so maybe next year we’ll do another year of UK or a year of Germany with a couple of European rounds.

“I’m really happy with our year in TCR UK, how we’ve developed, and coming to second to Dan (Lloyd) is nothing to be ashamed of considering Dan’s experience.”
