Aurélien Comte, DG Sport switch to TCR Europe

Aurélien Comte will switch to the TCR Europe series for the 2019 season after being confirmed as the first driver with DG Sport Compétition.

The Frenchman raced with the team in the World Touring Car Cup last year, taking victory at Zandvoort at the wheel of a Peugeot 308TCR.

With the team having elected to call time on its WTCR programme, it will now move over to the European series and continue with the Peugeot – with a second car available if a driver can be found.

“Once more we need thank Peugeot Sport for its trust, and we are delighted to take up this new challenge of the TCR Europe,” team director Christian Jupsin said. “Quite clearly during the off-season the European championship has evolved considerably, welcoming a true armada of top drivers and teams.

“It won’t be an easy assignment, but we do know the product in the Peugeot 308TCR, the driver Aurélien Comte and we are continuing our collaboration with the operational engineer Jérôme Dadoumont and technical director Lionel Hansen.

“Between now and the competition’s kick-off on the Hungaroring in a month’s time, we will carrying out various test sessions and a second Peugeot 308TCR is available for a similar programme.”

Despite the late nature of the deal, Comte said he was hopeful of a strong season on track.

“This programme came about rather late, but it won’t prevent me from attacking the season with full motivation,” he said. “When I attack a competition, the objective is always the same: to win!

“However, we need to show humility, because TCR Europe will be bringing together some really good drivers this year, and it will be just as hard to prove our worth as in WTCR. Nonetheless everything will be put into place to succeed.”
