Andrew Jordan opens up top at Donington Park
Andrew Jordan emerged on top of the pile with the quickest time in the opening free practice session for the second meeting of the BTCC season at Donington Park.
The West Surrey Racing driver left it late in the session to jump to the top of the pile, setting a best time of 1:18.892 in the closing moments to move ahead of long-time leader Ash Sutton.
Sutton had led the way for the majority of the session and looked set to be the only driver to dip below 1:19 in damp conditions, but Jordan would edge him out of top spot by just 0.050s.
Dan Cammish was best of the front-wheel drive cars in third place, with Tom Ingram making a solid start to the home race for the Toyota Corolla with the fourth best time – with Colin Turkington and Jason Plato rounding out the top six.
The damp circuit conditions would result in most of the session passing without major drama, although there was a red flag just 30 seconds in to allow marshals to re-position a tyre stack at the final corner.
The only other stoppage would come with just under ten minutes remaining when Nicolas Hamilton suffered a spin into the gravel at Redgate, although a number of other drivers would run off-track whilst searching for grip, with Jack Goff, Mark Blundell and championship leader Josh Cook amongst those to have minor incidents that didn’t affect their sessions.
