Dan Cammish edges second practice at Thruxton

Dan Cammish showed lap record pace as he emerged on top of the pile in the second BTCC free practice session of the weekend at Thruxton.

The Team Dynamics driver posted a quickest time of 1:15.589s at the wheel of his FK8 Honda Civic Type R, with the lap coming on just his fourth lap of the session – laying down an early marker for the rest of the field to chase.

Whilst Cammish was half a second clear at one stage, the gap to the field behind came down as others improved, with Rory Butcher emerging with the second best time at the wheel of his older FK2 Civic.

The Scot was amongst the drivers to leave it late to post his best time, eventually setting a best time just 0.069s down on Cammish’s best.

Andrew Jordan was third quickest as the best of the BMWs despite a grassy moment that required a trip to the pits, with Colin Turkington fourth despite the ballast on his 330i M Sport.

Adam Morgan was another driver who would be forced to pit after an off-track excursion, with the Ciceley Motorsport man taking avoiding action at Church to miss the Focus of Nicolas Hamilton.

Morgan would be limited to just seven laps as a result but still set the fifth best time, with Matt Simpson, Jake Hill and Tom Oliphant close behind.

Jason Plato in the first of the Power Maxed Racing Vauxhalls and the second Dynamics Honda of Mat Neal completed the top ten.

Elsewhere, points leader Ash Sutton – who had earlier topped the first session in drying conditions – was 16th quickest in a session where the top 18 drivers were covered by less than a second.
