Andrew Jordan doubles up with lights-to-flag victory

Andrew Jordan made it two wins from two at Thruxton with a lights-to-flag victory in the second BTCC race of the weekend.

The Pirtek Racing man had earned pole position by virtue of his victory in the opening race of the weekend and was able to maintain his advantage when the lights went out for the start.

Fellow BMW man Colin Turkington was able to jump ahead of Sam Tordoff’s Honda off the line to get into second spot going into the Complex and the pair were able to then set about breaking away from the pack behind.

Although light drizzle as the race wore on ensured that neither driver was able to relax, Jordan duly wrapped up his second victory of the day – marking the first time in five years that he has secured a double win on a race weekend.

It also makes Jordan the first driver this season to secure three victories.

Second place for Turkington was good enough to help him extend his lead in the standings to ten points over Rory Butcher, who would finish the race back in seventh spot in his Cobra Sport AmD Honda Civic Type R.

Butcher’s team-mate Sam Tordoff had held third in the early stages before being passed at the final chicane by Dan Cammish on the fifth lap; the pair surviving contact going into the corner as Tordoff got a wheel on the grass and Cammish was forced to run across the run-off.

Unable to keep pace with the two BMWs ahead, Cammish edged away from the pack behind to secure third spot ahead of long-time rivals Jason Plato and Matt Neal – who got ahead of Tordoff on the run to the Complex on lap seven and then squabbled all the way to the flag.

Tordoff had to settle for sixth spot ahead of team-mate Butcher, with Tom Ingram, Rob Collard and Josh Cook completing the top ten – the latter after a late move on the Subaru of Ash Sutton.

The result of that is pole for race three for Sutton, with the Subaru man having been the main beneficiary of a reverse grid draw carried out by former McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh.

Further down the grid, Tom Oliphant managed to salvage a points finish as he continued to fight back from his race one penalty whilst Ollie Jackson was an early retirement after a clash with a clash with Chris Smiley at the chicane.
