Ash Sutton joins Spa grid with WRT

Former BTCC champion Ash Sutton will make a return to the TCR Europe grid this weekend after being named a part of an expanded line-up by WRT.

Sutton, who competed in the 2018 season finale for WestCoast Racing and secured a podium finish in Barcelona, will be at the wheel of a second Volkswagen Golf entered by the Belgian outfit for its home race alongside Maxime Potty, with WRT also responsible for running the Audi RS 3 LMS of Santiago Urrutia.

The 25-year-old currently sits fourth in the BTCC standings with nine races and three rounds having been completed.

“I very much enjoyed my first experience of TCR Europe at Barcelona last year, and I really look forward now to racing at Spa for the first time,” he said. “I have been there, but not as a driver, and liked it very much. It is, of course, one of the favourite tracks of any driver, with many interesting corners and I’m really anxious to race there, although I’ll have little time to learn.

“We will have to play by the ear and approach the weekend without many expectations. I know I can rely on an excellent team in WRT, and I hope we can bring home a good result.”
