Colin Turkington pleased with second row slot

Colin Turkington declared himself pleased with a second row slot after a challenging qualifying session for the fourth round of the BTCC season at Croft.

The WSR driver showed strong pace in practice despite the additional ballast on his car thanks to his position as joint championship leader.

Despite the multiple stoppages during the session, Turkington was able to get a banker lap in early on that looked good for a front row slot before late laps from Chris Smiley and Tom Chilton saw him slip back to fourth.

That still leaves the Northern Irishman well placed for race day, particularly with closest rival Rory Butcher starting at the back of the grid after his accident.

“I don’t think we’ve ever had a session with five red flags before!” he said. “With the BMW we don’t cross tyres like the FWD cars do, so were able to get a banker lap in early and it worked for us with all the incidents that followed.

“I think we only did five or six quick laps in the session so to be P4 is good, particularly when there is more to come from the car for sure.

“You can’t win them all in this series and we just have to fight hard to be near the front in all three races and pick up as many points as we can.”
