Colin Turkington delighted to secure outright points lead

Colin Turkington admitted he was delighted to secure the outright BTCC points lead after another solid weekend on track at Croft.

The WSR driver had started the weekend level on points with Rory Butcher, but followed up fourth in race one with a solid second behind team-mate Andrew Jordan in race two.

A top six finish in race three capped a strong haul of points for the Northern Irishman who now sits nine points clear of Josh Cook in the standings.

“It’s been a great weekend for me,” he said. “It’s tough to come into a weekend as the leader as the start of your weekend is compromised by the extra weight you have to carry.

“To come away from the weekend with a second, a fourth and a sixth is excellent with the high level of competition that there is here and we’ve worked hard to improve the car across the weekend. It felt a lot better with the weight out in race two and I can leave here really happy.

“This weekend I think we have seen that the front-wheel drive cars have been quick and I think we can really saw Croft is our territory anymore as it was in the past. The increase in grip has nullified a bit of our advantage so to come away from here leading the standings is great.”
