All-night repairs ensure Matt Simpson can race at Oulton Park

Matt Simpson will be on the grid for the first of today’s three BTCC races at Oulton Park after his Simpson Racing squad pulled an all-nighter to fix his damaged car.

Simpson missed out on qualifying after an accident with Andrew Jordan in second free practice, where the West Surrey Racing man lost control exiting Old Hall corner and speared across the track, collecting Simpson’s Civic Type R as he exited the pitlane.

A host of other teams, including West Surrey Racing and Team Dynamics, have pitched in to help with the repairs, meaning Simpson can race at the venue where he scored his maiden BTCC victory 12 months ago.

In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Simpson said: “We’re over the moon to say, after working throughout the night, the car has been repaired and passed scrutineering this morning – we’re going racing!

“This wouldn’t have been possible without the help of Ben Coles, WSR, Westbourne Motorsport and Douglas Motorsport – thank you everyone. Also, a huge special thanks to Team Dynamics – we can’t express our appreciation enough!

“Last, but definitely not least, a big thank you to our amazing Simpson boys – you’re dedication is out of this world and there’s not a better bunch of boys out there.”

The first race of the day gets under way at 12.20 BST.
