Teamwork Huff Motorsport pull plug on TCR UK programme

Teamwork Huff Motorsport has announced to withdraw from the 2019 TCR UK championship with immediate effect, stating redirected focus on their Asian programmes as the reason.

The decision was announced just ahead of this weekend’s races at Brands Hatch, the penultimate round of the season.

“It’s a shame I won’t get to go to Brands Hatch or Donington Park, but I’m fully behind the the team’s decision,” said Sunny Wong, driver of the #12 Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR.

“We’re really thankful to the TCR UK championship and to Ciceley Motorsport for their support this year,” said Paul Hui, Teamwork Huff Motorsport team principal. “Unfortunately, after an internal review, we’ve decided we need to focus on our key programmes for this year, which are in the TCR Asia International Series, which is proving to be a very competitive championship, and of course the Macau Touring Car Cup, where there are high expectations upon us after our successes last year.”

The team has confirmed that their Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR will remain in Europe for a yet to be announced new programme.

“TCR UK was a new challenge for us, but it hasn’t quite proved to be the right first challenge for Teamwork Huff Motorsport. We still have aspirations to build our presence in the region, and with touring car superstar Rob Huff onboard, we’re looking into what options would be best for us in 2020,” said Hui.

“We’re still not done with Europe yet in 2019 however, and we have another exciting programme to announce soon.”

Wong has taken part in two of the three rounds this year with a third place in the season opener as his best result.
