Andrew Jordan: Knockhill race day “a percentage game”

Andrew Jordan insists that he will be “playing the percentage game” on race day at Knockhill after qualifying in third place for the latest rounds of the British Touring Car Championship season.

The West Surrey Racing driver showed solid pace throughout free practice in his BMW 330i M Sport and maintained that form into qualifying as he secured a place on the second row of the grid.

Crucially, that means Jordan lines up ahead of Colin Turkington as he seeks to bring down the current 30 point gap between the pair in the standings, with Jordan admitting that the day had exceeded expectations.

“I said I’d be happy with a top six and we have been there or thereabouts all day with weight onboard,” he said. “To be on the second row probably exceeds my expectations and I’m ahead of Colin which is good, although I need to be there tomorrow.

“I’ve done what I needed to do today and feel I have driven well. We’ve hardly changed anything on the car and just made a few clicks here and there. It’s been better over the kerbs than the 125i M Sport was and more controllable in the high-speed stuff, which has showed in us going quicker than we have before.

“How I approach tomorrow will depend where Colin is. If he is P8 and I’m second then I don’t want to risk taking a front wheel off just to get a win. It’s a percentage game and I have to keep an eye on the points and see how it goes.

“If he is right behind me then I might be more inclined to take a risky move for position, but the goal has to be outscore Colin and bring the gap down a bit, and then it’ll be a case of rolling the sleeves up for the last two rounds.”
