Andrew Jordan hit with race one penalty; Turkington’s lead extended

The BTCC title fight has taken another twist after Andrew Jordan was handed a penalty by officials after the opening race of the weekend.

The West Surrey Racing driver had worked his way through to eighth place having qualified down in 14th spot to close to within four points of team-mate Colin Turkington in the title race.

Turkington could only finish race one in 14th after a mid-race spin following a clash with Adam Morgan and Rob Collard.

Jordan however has been hit with a 6.6s penalty for contact with Tom Chilton during the race, with the time penalty putting him back behind the Motorbase-run Ford Focus in the results.

A tenth place finish for Jordan as a result means that the gap between the top two is now six points heading into the second race of the weekend.
