Paul Ricard and Zolder added to seven-race 2020 TCR Europe calendar

Paul Ricard and Zolder have been added the 2020 TCR Europe series calendar that, just as this year, will feature seven race weekends.

The season will start at Spa-Francorchamps on April 30-May 2nd, as part of the TCR Spa 500 endurance event, and end on October 9-11th at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

“The large participation and the level of competition we enjoyed in 2019 proved that the format works well, which is why we have stuck to the seven events on an attractive set of racetracks,” said promoter Paulo Ferreira.

“At Spa, for the first time the series will share the bill with an endurance race for TCR cars, and we hope that some of our teams and drivers will be willing to try the experience of a long distance race.”

The second round of the season will be held at Red Bull Ring in Austria in May, with Oschersleben in Germany hosting the third round at the end of June.

Paul Ricard, last featured on the calendar in 2018, will host the fourth round of the season in July, held together with the European Le Mans Series.

The Belgian track Zolder will host the first round after the summer break, held together with the FIA European Truck Championship.

“Another important addition is the event at Zolder with the FIA European Truck Championship that will provide another opportunity of racing in front of a huge crowd. We have also worked on the Sporting Regulations with the aim of improving the series under all the aspects, from the management to the racing itself,” said Ferreira.

Monza, that hosted the final round of 2019, has been moved to the penultimate round, with Barcelona instead hosting the season finale in October. The round at Monza will be held together with the GT Open and Barcelona with the Blancpain GT Series.

Also announced today is that the race distance of the races will be changed from 23 minutes plus one lap to 55km, with the first two laps behind the safety car to be added to the race distance.

The series organisers have also announced that there will be a 30-car limit for full-season entries.
