Dan Cammish eager to “hit the ground running”

Dan Cammish says he hopes that Team Dynamics can enjoy a strong start to the new British Touring Car Championship season when the delayed 2020 campaign kicks off next weekend at Donington Park.

Cammish heads into the season opener with his eye very much on putting together a championship challenge during the coming months having fallen agonisingly short last year – when brake failure less than two laps from the end of the final race saw him miss out on the title.

The former Porsche racer enjoyed a solid test at Snetterton earlier this month and insisted he was now ready for the challenge of the condensed nine-round schedule ahead.

“Our Honda Civic Type R FK8 felt sharp at the official test last week and we hope to hit the ground running,” he said. “It’s going to be a demanding few months both physically and mentally with the condensed season. But I’m just glad to go racing, it’s what I live for, so I’m raring to go…”

Team-mate Matt Neal meanwhile is one driver to have benefitted from the delay to the calendar, having been given more time to recover from the injuries he sustained in a mountain bike accident over the winter.

“It is a weird scenario we find ourselves in,” he said. “I haven’t raced in anger since October but the delay has obviously helped me with my recuperation from my mountain bike accident, and I’m glad to say I’m now fighting fit and can’t wait to go racing.

“It is going to be pretty frenetic this season with a number of back-to-back weekends, so the guys have been working really hard on spares packages and fully liveried panels as we’ll have limited time to make those changes. But I have to praise BTCC organiser TOCA in managing to pull together a near-full calendar of racing. Mind you it will be a bit chilly come the final rounds in November!”
