Jake Hill surprised with Croft performance

Jake Hill said he was surprised to be a front-running contender across the Croft weekend after securing a double podium from the latest rounds of the BTCC season.

The MB Motorsport driver qualified on the front row of the grid in North Yorkshire to maintain his impressive record of qualifying inside the top ten for every round so far this year, and then chased Josh Cook home in the opening race for a fine second place finish.

Despite contact from both Colin Turkington and Ash Sutton in race two, Hill then managed to secure a third place finish with 54kg of additional weight in his FK2 Honda Civic Type R and then ended the weekend with seventh in race three despite a poor start and the fact that he started to suffer braking issues as the race went on.

“I’m chuffed with the weekend and it’s been a great one for the team,” he said. “The car has been rapid and to get two podiums is fantastic. Had it not been for a bad start in race three, I think we could have up there in the top four in the final race as well, but I’m not going to complain.

“This wasn’t a circuit where I expected us to be strong and instead it has been one of our best weekends of the season, which is a nice surprise. I love the two circuits that are still to come and am in a good place at the moment, so I’ll be pushing for that win.”
