Ash Sutton storms to race two victory

Ash Sutton produced a fine drive on the option tyre to secure victory in the second BTCC race of the weekend at Snetterton.

The Laser Tools Racing driver had started from eleventh on the grid but a strong opening lap saw him quickly make up four places to get into the top ten.

From there, Sutton would pick off his rivals ahead, clearing Adam Morgan for seventh on lap two and then getting ahead of both Stephen Jelley and Rory Butcher on lap four.

Setting off after Tom Ingram, Sutton then moved into the podium places on on the exit of Wilson on lap six before taking second from Ollie Jackson going in the same corner a lap later, with the champion then closing down a gap of more than two seconds to leader Colin Turkington – who had held his place at the front of the pack from pole.

By lap nine, Sutton was ahead after sliding up the inside at Agostini and he would remain out front to the finish despite Turkington coming back at him in the closing stages as the soft tyre started to drop away.

Behind the top two, Jackson took third thanks to a storming start where he vaulted up into second spot on the opening lap. Also running the soft tyre, Jackson was left to defend from Ingram for much of the second half of the race, with the pair running together to the flag before Jackson secured the final place on the podium.

Rory Butcher picked up more solid points in fifth spot in the Speedworks Toyota ahead of the BMWs of Tom Oliphant and Stephen Jelley, with Adam Morgan and Jack Goff behind.

Aiden Moffat was tenth but only because of a five second penalty for being out of position at the start, which dropped him back from where he had been on the road. Moffat was involved in a mid-race clash with Jake Hill after which the MB Motorsport driver plummeted down the order – failing to score as Turkington took the championship lead.
