Tom Ingram takes first EXCELR8 victory

Tom Ingram secured a first BTCC win for both EXCELR8 and Hyundai with victory in the final race of the weekend at Snetterton.

The race started with Stephen Jelley on pole thank to the reverse grid draw and he was able to keep the lead from team-mate Tom Oliphant and the Hyundai of Ingram, with Ollie Jackson making another strong start in the Focus to jump to up to fourth place.

The top four would then get involved in a squabble on lap two however that started when Oliphant tried to make a move for the lead at Wilson. Unable to get through, the two BMWs then headed down to Agostini together where Oliphant tagged the rear of Jelley’s car, delaying himself enough to let Ingram go around the outside into second spot.

Oliphant tried to keep the tight line to not only keep the place but to also try and attack Jelley, but contact from Jackson instead tipped him into a spin that dropped him down the pack. Jackson would pit a lap later with a puncture.

Jelley continued to lead from Ingram until lap five when he got ahead at Wilson and quickly scarpered away, with Jelley under pressure from race two winner Ash Sutton and a charging Gordon Shedden on the soft tyre.

The pair both managed to battle ahead of Jelley on lap six along with a soft-shod Josh Cook but were unable to chase down Ingram as he wrapped up the win, with Sutton beating Shedden to second spot.

Cook took fourth ahead of Jelley, with Rory Butcher rounding out his weekend with sixth from Colin Turkington, Adam Morgan, Jack Goff and Dan Rowbottom.

Jade Edwards in 15th secured her first points; the first woman since Fiona Leggate in 2006 to achieve that feat.
