Jack Goff hits the front in rapidly evolving second Oulton Park practice

Jack Goff moved to the front of the pack as times tumbled in the second BTCC free practice session of the weekend at Oulton Park.

After FP1 was affected by rain showers, conditions improved over the course of the second 40 minute session which resulted in the fastest laps of the weekend to date being posted as the clock ticked down towards zero.

Goff’s best lap would come on his 18th tour of 20 at the wheel of the Team HARD Cupra and was little more than a tenth of a second away from the lap record, with a 1:26.381 being good enough for him to edge Rory Butcher’s Toyota out of top spot.

Butcher would end the session 0.008s down on the quickest time, with Senna Proctor – who topped the times in the recent Goodyear tyre test – ending up in third place at the wheel of his BTC Racing Honda.

Fourth went to Jason Plato as the PMR driver turned his first timed laps of the day in the Vauxhall Astra having not gone for a quick lap in FP1, with the top six completed by Adam Morgan’s BMW and the leading Ford in the hands of Sam Osborne – which had been top for a large period late on.

Despite the extra weight on their cars, title rivals Tom Ingram and Ash Sutton followed behind, despite the latter missing part of the session after being handed a black flag for track limits, with Gordon Shedden and Stephen Jelley completing the top ten.

Having paced FP1, Tom Oliphant was down in 20th place despite his best lap being little more than a second off the benchmark time.
