Rory Butcher frustrated with tough home weekend

Rory Butcher admitted he was frustrated with the results from his home round of the BTCC season at Knockhill after a race two incident robbed him of the chance to fight for three strong results.

The Speedworks driver went into the weekend on the back of a winning performance at Oulton Park and qualified in a solid eighth for the opening race in his Toyota Corolla.

Having finished ninth in race one, Butcher was fighting for position with fellow Scot Aiden Moffat in race two when contact between the pair going into Duffus Dip saw him spin off into the gravel.

At the back for race three, Butcher could only make his way up to 20th despite setting the fastest lap and he admitted it had turned out to be a weekend to forget.

“It’s been a weekend that went from bad to worse,” he said, “and the big shame is we that made real progress with the car in terms of pace and were quick in race two and three.

“The contact with Aiden was just a tiny little touch and it ended with me spinning into the gravel, which made it tricky from the back in race three.

“Fighting for P20 was nearly as hard as fighting for bloody P5 as there was so much robust racing and trying to make a pass was really tricky.

“The results aren’t much to shout home about this weekend but I can be pleased with the bigger picture of the improvements we have made to the car ahead of Thruxton. We have to put this weekend behind us and focus on going well when we return there.”
