Civic Cup racer Jamie Tonks to join TCR UK ranks with Area Motorsport

Jamie Tonks will join the Touring Car Trophy incorporating TCR UK for the 2022 season after purchasing a CUPRA TCR DSG for use in the series.

Tonks will compete with the Area Motorsport team that has been running him in the Civic Cup series this season, and which carried Bruce Winfield to second in the Touring Car Trophy standings.

Testing of the new CUPRA will begin in the coming months ahead of the start of the new campaign.

“First of all, I can’t thank both Area Motorsport and my sponsor FAST R enough for giving me the chance to be able to make the next step in my motorsport career, where I will enter the exciting arena of TCR competition,” he said.

“Without their support, I wouldn’t be able to take on the chance to drive one of these fantastic TCR cars, especially having witnessed the action and excitement from this year. One benefit is that the colour scheme will also follow me!

“With next year being my debut season in a TCR car and seeing how competitive this type of racing is, I’ll be looking to learn as much as I can about the car whilst looking to improve my performance over each race weekend.”
