Aiden Moffat delighted with maiden rear-wheel drive win

Aiden Moffat was left delighted with a first win in rear-wheel drive after a stunning weekend on track for the Laser Tools Racing man at Croft.

The Scot went into the seventh round of the campaign having taken a single podium finish from the opening 18 races of the year, and sprung a surprise in qualifying when he put his Infiniti Q50 onto pole position.

Despite the best efforts of Jake Hill to find a way through, Moffat was able to lead the opening race from start-to-finish to snare a first victory since 2018, and he then backed it up with a fine defensive drive in race two to take second spot on maximum ballast.

A solid top ten finish in race three ensured Moffat moved up to seventh in the standings, having now surpassed his career best season score with nine races still to run.

“We certainly managed to back up the result from qualifying!” he said. “I was quietly confident going into the races but I was also just hoping things would go right as I wanted to get that first win in rear-wheel drive. I know what it takes to win in the BTCC, but it had been a few years so there was a lot of pressure I was putting on myself.

“The win was great, but race two was probably more special because of the weight we had on the car. I was confident that I would be able to defend, but you never know if you’ll get a helping hand off track!

‘I had to learn how to drive the car with maximum ballast and credit to Ash for doing what he has done with full weight because it was bloody hard work!”

Moffat’s race on win was the highlight of a strong weekend for the Laser Tools squad, which also won the Jack Sears Trophy with Carl Boardley and the teams trophy for the weekend.

“We’ve picked up seven trophies between us this weekend, which is a great result,” he said. “Hopefully we can build on it at Silverstone next weekend and fight for some more silverware.”
