Rory Butcher delighted by perfect Saturday

Rory Butcher was left delighted by a perfect Saturday at Silverstone after securing his first pole of the BTCC season.

After a tough weekend at Croft the previous weekend, the Speedworks driver was the man to beat across the day in his Toyota Corolla – leading the way in both free practice sessions and then topping the times in Q1 to make the showdown.

From there, the Scot was able to edge Tom Ingram out of pole position to complete a perfect day on track and he will now hope to turn his pace into strong results on race day to make up ground in the standings.

“It couldn’t have gone much better today,” he said. “We topped the times in all the sessions and made the top ten shootout in qualifying and then it was a case of it all coming down to that lap. It’s a shame we didn’t get a tow, but I had to get on with it and put the lap together, and it was good enough to edge pole.

“It shows where we are as the car feels so good, and shows the hard work that has gone in from the team to give me what i want from the car. We have showed little signs and this is the end result.

“To be honest, I felt I could have gone quicker but we are on pole and that is all that matters. It’s a big moment for the team and now we go again tomorrow and try to convert it into some results.”
