Rory Butcher remains out front at Silverstone

Rory Butcher remains the man to beat at Silverstone after following his pace-setting performance from earlier in the morning with the quickest lap in second practice ahead of the latest rounds of the BTCC season.

Butcher held top spot for the majority of the session in his Toyota Corolla, but it would be in the final moments when he set what would prove to be the fastest lap – with a 57.247s lap being two-tenths of a second quicker than he managed in the opening session.

Tom Oliphant would emerge as the closest challenger to the Speedworks driver as he slipped his BMW into second spot following a busy session that saw him complete more laps than anyone else, although he was nearly three-tenths of a second behind.

Senna Proctor was third best in his Honda Civic ahead of Ash Sutton, who continued to make light of the additional ballast in his Infiniti Q50 to set the fourth best time.

Dan Lloyd was an encouraging fifth in the leading Vauxhall, with the top six completed by Tom Ingram’s Hyundai.

Dan Rowbottom was close behind with the Ciceley pair of Tom Chilton and Adam Morgan, as well as EXCELR8’s Jack Butel rounding out the top ten.

Colin Turkington was closer to the pace in twelfth spot, but Jake Hill was down in 29th having been little more than a second off the pace.

The Hybrid car in the hands of Andrew Jordan enjoyed a busier session on track as the former champion completed 25 laps and was 25th quickest.
