Klim Gavrilov makes Cupra switch for season finale

Klim Gavrilov will switch cars for the 2021 TCR Europe season finale after confirming a move to a Cupra Leon Competición run by Volcano Motorsport.

The Russian driver currently sits 15th in the standings after a mixed campaign in an Audi RS 3 LMS run by VRC-Team.

The 21-year-old has a best finish of fourth place in Slovakia, with the decision to switch to the Cupra being part of a plan to evaluate his options for next year.

“After a full season with the Audi, Klim Gavrilov has decided to try out a new car provided by Volcano Motorsport in cooperation with VRC-Team,” Volcano Motorsport team manager Andrei Tkachenko said.

“He is looking forward to the next season of TCR Europe in 2022 and wants to do it with a new car. The choice of the CUPRA is a logical one as we have several new Leon Competición cars in our garage and have been very successful this season with Mikel Azcona and Evgenii Leonov, taking victories and podiums in TCR Europe and TCR Italy.

“After two successful years in TCR racing, we are looking for new challenges and want to expand our driver line-up for TCR Europe in 2022. Gavrilov is a very successful young Russian driver and will fit perfectly inside the team.”
