Bruce Winfield upgrades for 2022 campaign

Bruce Winfield has confirmed he will return to the TCR UK grid for the 2022 season having switched to a Cupra TCR with a sequential gearbox.

Winfield drove a Cupra with a DSG ‘box to second in the championship standings last year, taking race wins at both Anglesey and Donington Park.

The second year racer will now seek to go one better in the upcoming campaign, where his car will once again be run by the Area Motorsport team.

“Last year we had a great season, finishing second in the championship,” he said. “We didn’t expect to be taking podiums or setting pole positions and taking race wins, we were aiming to be a frontrunner.

“TCR UK was a new series for me and the team in 2021 and normally things take time to bed in, however, we were able to improve quickly and make some good progress in the second half of the year.

“For each new season everyone always wants to go one better and for me, that would mean going for the title, but it’s not that easy. With the CUPRA TCR SEQ, I’m looking to perform better than I did last year in what’s looking like a larger and more competitive field for this year.”
