Jáchym Galáš, Lewis Kent named on Hyundai Junior programme

Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing has named six drivers who will become part its its Junior Driver programme for the 2022 season.

Whilst four of the drivers will be competing on rally stages in the i20 N Rally2, two will be involved in TCR competition, with Czech racer Jáchym Galáš back for a second year on the programme.

Galáš will once again compete in TCR Europe this season with the Janík Motorsport team, albeit in an Elantra N TCR after spending 2021 at the wheel of an i30 N TCR.

Double TCR UK champion Lewis Kent joins the programme for the first time as he prepares to go for a third successive title, with Kent also in a new car after purchasing a Veloster N TCR.

Both drivers will be able to call on the support of Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing’s support engineers during the season ahead and will work closely with the manufacturer on a range of initiatives across the year.

“Supporting young drivers coming through the ranks is a crucial part of the role of the Customer Racing department within Hyundai Motorsport,” Hyundai Motorsport deputy team principal Julien Moncet said.

“We aim to nurture our Junior Drivers as they build their careers in motorsport. The Rally2 and TCR categories present the perfect opportunity for this, with drivers able to remain with the same Hyundai cars as they progress from national to international competition – and then hopefully to either WRC events or WTCR with our teams.

“All of the individuals we have selected for the Junior Driver programme this year have already shown they are very capable behind the wheel, with strings of successes already behind them. With the support we can offer them as Customer Racing Junior Drivers I am certain they will be able to continue to progress towards their ultimate goal and forge a career in professional motorsport.”
