Debutants Rob Butler, Alex Ley added to TCR UK entry

Two more drivers have been confirmed on the growing TCR UK entry list for the 2022 season in the shape of Rob Butler and Alex Ley.

Butler makes the move up into the series from the Sport Civic Cup, where he took three wins last year, and will be at the wheel of a Volkswagen Golf entered by the JW Bird Motorsport team alongside the new Cupra León Competición of ex-MINI racer Matthew Wilson.

“I look forward to the challenges this championship is going to present,” he said. “I realise it’s going to be a steep learning curve, but with JW Bird Motorsport running multiple entries this year, I’m hoping the experience and knowledge the team has to offer will help me make further gains in performance as the season progresses.”

Ley meanwhile will be one of the youngest drivers in the field this season at the wheel of an ex-Target Competition Hyundai i30 N, with the 16-year-old currently planning to contest the rounds at Donington Park and Snetterton.

“Having enjoyed success in karting and then racing Fiesta’s, I feel the next step for me is in TCR UK, especially at a time where the series is clearly growing, attracting stronger grids and talented drivers,” he said.

“The Hyundai i30 N TCR has been highly successful in the championship already, winning seven of the fourteen races last season and has also won titles in national and international series around the world. I’m hoping it will help me make my mark on the championship, especially as it looks like I’ll be the youngest driver on the grid this season.”
