Gordon Shedden grabs race two honours at Donington
Gordon Shedden battled his way forwards to victory in the second race of the BTCC opener at Donington Park.
Shedden had started the race from third on the grid and although he looked set to make up a spot when the lights went out when Colin Turkington was left stranded by a clutch issue, he lost out to George Gamble on the run to turn one.
Tom Ingram held the lead from pole in his EXCELR8-run Hyundai and built a slender advantage at the front as Shedden tried to find a way ahead of Gamble – eventually making a move stick on lap four.
Shedden then chased Ingram down and having closed onto the rear of the race one winner, he managed to make a move stick on the run to McLeans on lap ten.
The Honda was unable to break away at the front and Ingram kept him honest to the flag, with the pair taking the flag split by less than two-tenths of a second.
Behind, Gamble’s impressive start to life in the series saw him take third spot ahead of team-mate Adam Morgan, with Josh Cook and Ash Sutton rounding out the top six.
Sutton had run fifth ahead of Cook through the early laps before the BTC Racing man managed to find a way past, with Sutton then chased down late on by Bobby Thompson as he produced an impressive run in the Team HARD Cupra to grab seventh spot.
Dan Lloyd took eighth place in his Hyundai with Jake Hill and Rory Butcher rounding out the top ten having coming from the back of the field after their earlier dramas.
A race of attrition saw Dan Cammish, Ricky Collard and Ollie Jackson amongst three drivers to retire to the pits whilst Stephen Jelley failed to take the start when his BMW lost the propshaft on the green flag lap.
