Dan Cammish: ‘I never let my head drop’
Dan Cammish admits that he had ‘never let his head drop’ after the Motorbase Performance driver grabbed his first BTCC pole of the season at Thruxton.
Cammish has endured a mixed campaign with the Ford team after rejoining the grid in 2022, with a dramatic fire in qualifying at Donington Park ultimately setting the scene for what was to follow for the multiple Porsche Carrera Cup champion.
Currently outside the top ten with just two podium finishes to his name this season, Cammish edged Josh Cook out of pole position and will now look to try and translate pole into his first victory of the campaign.
“It’s such an amazing feeling – what a buzz,” he said. “Honestly there have been times this year where I’ve forgotten what this feels like.
“[However] I’ve never let my head drop, which has been important, even though the season has almost been written off for me and I’m now focusing on how I can help Ash.
“I always knew it was in me and that I hadn’t forgotten how to drive – it’s just the a case of the key doesn’t always fit the lock. It’s taken time for me to learn the car and to build a relationship with my new engineer but this shows the progress we’ve been making.
“This is the fastest track in the country and some of these corners are almost flat in sixth gear and the car will move around. You’re on the limit all the time to deliver the lap, which is we did, and hopefully we can be strong in the races tomorrow.”
