Dan Cammish secures straightforward race one win
Dan Cammish took full advantage of a chaotic opening lap to secure a straightforward lights-to-flag win in the opening BTCC race of the weekend at Thruxton.
The Motorbase driver had qualified on pole and was able to hold the lead at the start before establishing a lead of well over two seconds by the end of lap one as his rivals squabbled behind.
The ensured that Cammish was able to then manage things from the front of the pack throughout as he took a comfortable victory, even though the pack behind would close in during the final stages.
Cammish had started the race alongside Josh Cook on the grid, but Cook would lose out to Jake Hill off the line before then being forced wide into the Complex when he went three-wide with Hill and Ash Sutton.
Sutton nipped inside the pair to move second only for Cook to fight back into the second part of the complex, with contact between the pair heading into Seagrave seeing Cook go sideways onto the grass and drop down the order.
Gordon Shedden was able to take advantage to nip ahead of Sutton to move into second place with Sutton slotting in behind after a huge slide at Noble. and Hill fourth – with those positions then remaining unchanged right through to the finish.
Ash Hand emerged from the opening lap having climbed to fifth – despite a clash with Ricky Collard that led to the Toyota plummeting down the order – and would again hold station to the finish, with Rory Butcher and Dan Rowbottom following behind having both cleared the second Power Maxed Racing Vauxhall of Michael Crees on the fifth lap.
Title rivals Tom Ingram and Colin Turkington would round out the top ten having both made up ground in the early stages.
After his lap one issue, Cook would end up back in 13th spot.
Most of the drama in the race came further down the order, with Tom Chilton lucky not to roll his Hyundai after being tipped sideways at Church on the opening lap.
Jade Edwards and Jack Butel were lucky not to collide after a moment at turn one, although it left Edwards with a Thruxton banner stuck to the front of her car that resulted in her losing places.
