Alex Ley set for first full programme

Alex Ley will join the TCR UK grid on a full-time basis this season after becoming the latest driver to confirm an entry for the 2023 campaign.

The teenager joined the field from round two onwards last year in his Daniel James Motorsport-run Hyundai i30 N and would go on to win three times en-route to sixth in the championship standings.

For the new season, Ley will work alongside Area Motorsport – which has already confirmed two Hyundai cars for Bruce Winfield and Jamie Tonks – with his car being run under the Area Motorsport with Daniel James Motorsport banner.

“The 2022 season surpassed our expectations and really put Alex on the map with his three wins in his debut season, something that no other driver was able to achieve last year,” Daniel James Motorsport team principal Daniel Ley said. “We never expected to end the year with three victories to Alex’s name and that’s a true testament to the hard work both Alex and the Daniel James Motorsport team put in.

“2023 is a new season and this time we are contesting all 15 rounds, joining forces with Area Motorsport. After our collaboration at the Snetterton finale, staying with Area Motorsport presents Alex with an opportunity to grow as a driver. We expect this year to be a tough season and will be looking to make sure the Hyundai runs reliably so that Alex can maximise his chances of scoring the best points he can in each race.”
