Rick Kerry to run ex-Tonks Cupra in TCR UK debut

Former Kumho BMW champion – and ex-BTCC racer – Rick Kerry will join the TCR UK grid this season after agreeing a deal to purchase the Cupra TCR raced last year by Jamie Tonks.

Kerry has previous experience of the Cupra from competing in Britcar and is currently set to contest selected rounds of the upcoming campaign, starting on home soil at Snetterton in April.

Last season saw Kerry compete in selected races in the BMW Car Club Racing Championship with a V8-powered BMW 1 Series as he returned to action from injury, but he will now switch to front-wheel drive for the year ahead.

“I’ve got plenty of experience of racing in rear-wheel drive machinery, mainly in BMWs for the past 20 years,” he said. “However, when I decided to go back to racing, I looked for what would be the best and most equal racing to make a return in and TCR UK fits the bill.

“The Championship has grown over the last two seasons and has offered both a great racing spectacle and also an affordable way to go Touring car racing. I’ll be testing the CUPRA in the run-up to the start of the season and I’m looking forward to racing in TCR UK this year as I see this offering me the best competitive option to return to racing.”
