Milan Vuković wins red flagged first race at Hungaroring

Vuković Motorsport driver Milan Vuković won on his return to TCR Eastern Europe in a race that was red flagged after nine laps because of an incident.

The Janik Motorsport trio of Mat’o Homola, Carlo Czepiel and Adam Kout lined up in positions one to three, but disaster struck the pole man who stalled as the lights went out, dropping Homola to seventh.

Rene Kircher, who started from fourth, got a good getaway and claimed the lead heading into the first corner.

His Mertel Motorsport team-mate Davit Kajaia made contact with Homola into turn one, which opened the door to Milan and Milenko Vuković to claim second and fourth respectively.

Milan Vuković took the lead on lap two, passing Kircher coming into the last corner.

Homola piled the pressure on Milenko Vuković for fourth place, with the Megane driver seemingly struggling for grip but still managed to stay ahead of the Hyundai driver.

The safety car was called out on lap ten when Adam Rzepecki beached his Audi in the gravel at Turn 2.

After a lap of driving behind the safety car, the race was red flagged with Milan Vuković scoring the win ahead of the Mertel Motorsport duo of Kircher and Kajaia.

Milenko Vuković crossed the finishing line in fourth place but was handed a two-second penalty for a track limit breach which dropped him behind Homola, while Kout finished sixth for Janik Motorsport ahead of Petr Čížek and Sebastian Steibel.

The second race starts at 10:40 CEST on Sunday.
