André Couto to join TCR China field

Macau expect André Couto will make a return to racing this season after confirming a move into TCR China.

Couto has only contested selected races in a range of championships in recent years, with his last programme in 2021 seeing him compete in three races of the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia series.

Having missed round one whilst waiting for the arrival of the Honda Civic Type R that he will race for the MacPro Racing Team – which will operate alongside the Dongfeng Racing team running cars for Jack Young and Martin Xie – Couto is now set to join the grid from round two of the campaign at the wheel of a new FL5-spec machine.

“This was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down,” Couto told Tribuna de Macau.

“The team only had two cars available for round one so my team-mates were on track but I hope to participate at Zhejiang with the new Honda Civic built by JAS.

“A TCR competition with so many drivers has never happened in China so this will be a very competitive championship but our team has the structure behind it to win.”
