Mikel Azcona receives grid penalty for qualifying incident with Tom Coronel
Hyundai driver Mikel Azcona has been handed a grid penalty for an incident with Tom Coronel during the combined TCR World Tour and TCR Europe qualifying at Spa-Francorchamps.
Azcona will be moved three spots down on the grid for the first race of the weekend this afternoon, meaning that he will start 14th instead of eleventh.
The BRC Racing Team driver moved to block Coronel while fighting for a clear track during the end of the Q2 session and the two came together coming into Turn 5, resulting in both drivers aborting their laps.
The stewards issued the following statement:
“Car 196 had contact forcing car 34 off track.”
The first race of the weekend starts at 15:30 CEST.
