Santiago Urrutia pans Vallelunga action as “ridiculous”, “impossible” and “not fair”

Cyan Racing’s Santiago Urrutia was left massively unimpressed by the standard of racing in the second TCR World Tour race at Vallelunga.

There were instances of contact between drivers across the field, and the only one that ended a driver’s race involved Urrutia as he made contact with Comtoyou Racing’s John Filippi after fighting his team-mate Frédéric Vervisch.

While Filippi retired on the spot, Urrutia managed to take his damaged car back to the pits and finish a lap down to still score a point in 15th place.

“Okay we finished Race 2, [but] difficult weekend for me. I think it’s ridiculous, like we seen at Spa, so many crashes, no penalty, nothing,” Urrutia said afterwards.

“And I got hit by Vervisch hard. My car was destroyed so I had to pit, I lost one lap. I was running P3, it was good to get good points, but it’s impossible to race like this.

“We’re going to look at the videos, and now go over and talk to the race director and see if they start doing something, it’s not fair to race like this.

“I understand that touring cars, it can be aggressive sometimes, but I think this is not racing. So it is what it is, we focus on the next week now in Hungary and see if we can get some points back.”

Urrutia was among several drivers summoned by the steward post-race, although no penalties as have yet been issued as a final race result is yet to be published.
