TCR World Tour’s first track action in Uruguay rescheduled due to rain

The first day of TCR World Tour’s track action in South America has already been disrupted after rain hit Uruguay’s El Pinar circuit.

A shakedown session had been set to take place at 15:00 local time, which has already passed, with the first of two half-hour practice sessions for the weekend scheduled at 17:30 local time.

Once the weather front arrived, the event organisers were quick to postpone shakedown although it was not until several hours later that a statement from the TCR World Tour came confirming the reason for shakedown’s delay, and what was now happening to first practice.

“The bad weather that hit the Autódromo Victor Borrat Fabini in El Pinar has forced some changes in the timetable of the Kumho TCR World Tour and TCR South America joint event,” the statement read.

“The 20-minute shakedown that was due to take place today, Friday, at 15:00 local time has been postponed at 17:00. While the first free practice of 30 minutes has been moved from today at 17:30 to Saturday morning at 08:30. The rest of the schedule remain unchanged.”

That leaves teams with two-and-a-half hours between the end of first practice and the start of second practice on Saturday, with a break of over four hours following that with qualifying scheduled to start at 16:10 local time. Both races, which also count towards the TCR South America championship, are on Sunday.

Any further disruption will advantage the TCR South America contingent who know the track, while the majority of the World Tour-focused entrants have never driven at El Pinar before.
